X-Ray Diffraction

Sandberg is pleased to announce their acquisition of a Siemens D5000 X-ray diffractometer. X-ray diffraction (XRD) is a vital technique for identifying very fine grained crystalline substances such as clay minerals that are too fine to be identified by other means. Coupled with the latest software from Brucker and Sietronics this equipment allows the quantities of minerals in virtually any crystalline substance to be measured.

Sandberg’s X-ray diffraction capability will complement existing in-house facilities for scanning electron microscopy and optical microscopy/petrographic examination and enable Sandberg to provide an unrivalled service to clients in the mineralogical and petrographic testing of soil and rock used in construction.
